1. My E prime day.
Living an E prime day would mean setting aside all mental editing, because the editing is where the “to be” statements originate. To say exactly what I think all of the time is exhausting. The idling that occurs when my mind is processing information helps create space between me and the world. If I don’t edit, then the space gets smaller. E prime is about making the space smaller between the subject and the action. Non E prime runs from the scene.
For example:
The teachers make school impossible.
or
I make school impossible when I don’t take the time to study the material.
Phew. That wasn’t so hard.
2. Can I synthesize East and West?
Sometimes I think East and West mixes like oil and water. When I don’t think that, I am having an “aha” moment because I see that it’s all the same. Humans have repeated experiences over and over throughout evolution and each part of the hemisphere works to put language to those experiences.
As students from the West, learning about the East we synthesize information all of the time in order to make sense of it. I merge the two when I’m with a patient because the chief complaint is not Liver Qi Stagnation, it’s “I cannot sleep.” or ”I have pain in my right shoulder.” I treat both, even on the days when it’s like oil on water.
